Wim Timmermans, lecturer at *van Hall Larenstein University*, was granted a PhD degree after the
public defense of his dissertation "Innovative land use and green
planning in relation to complexity theory", which took place in Lugo on
October 4, 2013.
The dissertation, written under supervision of Dr. Rafael Crecente
Maseda and Dr. Urbano Fra Paleo, denies the linear character of planning
processes and tries to explain their development as a result of internal
and external pressures, instead. The proposed model suggests that, when
a planning project faces a crisis and is unable to continue its original
path, it may change its global complexity level -usually towards higher
levels of complexity- to be able to integrate additional considerations,
interests and problems.
