USC's
Land Laboratory
(LaboraTe) is participating in the International Workshop on Land Consolidation and Land Banking
that takes place throughout this week in Budapest and is
organized by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization
(FAO),
the Dutch Government Service for Land and Water Management
(DLG) and the FARLAND network.
One of the main targets of the seminar is to discuss a technical
report on land bank which is being developed by the FAO,
and members of the group which carried out the first revision,
that was presented in Budapest. This revision was made in
collaboration with staff of the Land Bank of Galicia
(Bantegal). The aim is to develop a framework that is intended
to be a guide in the implementation of land banks in Europe,
with the advise of experts coming from governmental Administrations,
universities and specialized private-owned companies of
22 European countries.
The land bank instrument has raised a lot of interest in
countries of Central and Eastern Europe because it is seen
as an useful tool to solve various problems related to the
structures and dynamics of land use in rural areas, following
the example of consolidated experience in Western Europe.
Thus FAO continues its activities in land management and
land with which the laboratory has already worked in past
editions of thematic seminars like this (2008, Prague and
2009, Santiago de Compostela).
