Last March 6th Ramón Villares, professor of Contemporary
History at the USC, imparted the seminar "Land tenure and
land management: A historical perspective", an approach
from a historical perspective of property institutions in
Galicia and its relation to social dynamics and spatial
planning.
This seminar is part of the master in Sustainable Land Planning (MTT).
In a review of the history of the last eight centuries,
professor Villares identified several processes of change
in the relations of property which, paradoxically, have
maintained stability in the farming system. This system
was, in speaker's opinion, harmonic and coherent.
However since 1960 changes rate have accelerated, causing
the disappearance of traditional property management. For
professor Villares the current challenge is finding an alternative
in property relations and institutions that suits the XXI
century demands and allows to bring back the ability to
manage the Galician territory.
