On June 1st, 2012 was held the closing ceremony
of the Master in Sustainable Land Planning
for the academic year 2011/2012. The event took place at
the building Cactus, placed in the Lugo universitary campus.
In the ceremony were present the rector of the University
Santiago de Compostela, Juan Casares, the general director
of Agriculture and Rural Development of the European Union,
José Manuel Silva Rodríguez, the vice rector Herradón Pedro
García, Enrique Sáez Ponte, president of the foundation 'Juana de Vega',
the general director of Land Mobility of regional the Xunta
de Galicia, Javier Blanco Carballal and the master programme
coordinator, Rafael Crecente Maseda.
During the event, Silva Rodríguez delivered the conference
entitled "Governance in the European Union and research
in the context on the Common Agricultural Policy". In his
lecture, Silva Rodríguez focussed on the effects the European
Union's Common Agricultural Policy
(CAP) reform might have on the mobility of agricultural
land in Galicia. In his opinion the effects will be very
slight if it is not accompanied by government measures such
as sanctions to land owners that have their properties abandoned.
At the end of his conference, Silva Rodríguez listed the
main features of the research program of the EU's Agriculture
and Rural Development DG within the framework of the coming
budget.
In the event, the book "Territories under consideration.
Works on spatial planning." was presented by the master
coordinator. This book is a compilation of the best master
thesis conducted during the first edition - academic year
2010/2011 - of the master and attempts to be an example
of a consistent and multidisciplinary approach to spatial
planning and land management.
Finally, the master coordinator introduced some novelties
for the edition of next academic year. Its aim, according
to his words, is becoming a laboratory of ideas on land
and territorial management in the current and complex times.
In order to accomplish that the master will try to be more
open to society, strengthening cooperation between the research
group LaboraTe and the public and private sectors. In fact,
joint research program on land mobility, involving the Xunta
de Galicia Ministry of Rural Affairs, the foudation 'Juana
de Vega' and the Land Laboratory (LaboraTe), was announced.
