Three members of the Land Laboratory (LaboraTe) attended,
from 5th to 8th of June, in a F:ACTS!
study visit to De Wijers, in Belgium.
F:ACTS!
project goal is to increase knowledge on integrated territorial
development for climate change adaptation through the exchange
of experiences and good practices. The project involves
15 partners from 8 European regions, two of them from Galicia:
the University of Santiago de Compostela - represented by
the LaboraTe - and the Ministry of Rural Affairs and Fisheries
of the Galician region.
Among the activities programmed in the F:ACTS project, 5
pilot projects have been developed - one of them in Galicia,
monte do Carrio
(municipality of Lalín) - to generate new learning from
actual, practical experiences. During last week the participants
visited De Wijers, located in the province of Limburg.
De Wijers
is a ponds area included in Natura 2000
network that addresses several alterations due to flooding,
droughts and forest fires fostered, which are caused in
part by variations in rain and temperature patterns, both
of them influenced by climate change. During the visit,
the actions foreseen to tackle with climate change effects
were presented. Besides that, different workshops were held
in order to prepare the regional conferences of the project
- one of them in Santiago de Compostela (Spain) from 24th
to 25th of next October - and the Policy Issue
Papers, that seek for summarizing the most important findings
and recommendations at strategic level for each region involved,
as well as at European level.
Finally a dissemination event was carried out in Brussels,
where European policy makers involved in climate adaptation
and integrated territorial strategies were informed about
the F:ACTS! project in general and its recommendations.
In return, the F:ACTS! partners got an overview of European
policies and developments concerning climate adaptation.
Thus, Claus Kondrup, from European Commission's DG for Climate Action,
made a presentation on EU policy and developments on climate
adaptation; and Mike McKenzi, from Eupean Commission's
DG for Agriculture and Rural Development,
made another prensentation about EU policy and developments
on new CAP in relation to climate adaptation and integrated
territorial strategies
