The Land Laboratory participated in the 3rd International Conference on Heritage and Sustainable Development
(HERITAGE 2012), held in Porto (Portugal) from 19 to 22 June.
The event was attended by over a hundred professionals,
who discussed about the state-of-the-art regarding the relationships
between forms and kinds of heritage (natural, landscape,
architectural, archaeological, ethnographic, immaterial, etc.)
in a framework of sustainable development concepts such
as environment, economics, society and culture. The aim
was to share ideas and experiences about what is being done
in terms of research, future directions, methodologies and tools.
The experience of the Roman Walls of Lugo
- a monument declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO -, among
other works, was used to illustrate the intervention of
Beatriz Guimarey, who spoke about the contribution of new
technologies, especially the terrestrial laser scanner to
enhance heritage conservation. In the conference it was
stated that this technique, among others like unmanned aerial vehicles,
will play an important role in a near future due to their
improvements on geometric documentation, diagnosis of damages
and development of multimedia products that increase heritage
knowledge and divulgation.
