GREENZONE: Planning of multifunctional and multi-objective green infrastructure zones for their integration into spatial planning and land management

'GREENZONE aims to facilitate the planning and management of multifunctional elements of green infrastructure by developing a methodology and technological tools that allow different types of multifunctional zones to be defined, digitally mapped, and provided with specific management strategies. To achieve this, a procedure will be developed to identify various typologies of multifunctional zones, associated with different objectives (for example, agri-food production, recreational use, among others) in line with the predominant ecosystem services in each zone.
The delimitation of different multifunctional zones will enable the design of management criteria, as well as measures and actions adapted to each of them, consequently facilitating their integration into spatial planning and land management instruments. To this end, a participatory and easily reproducible methodology will be provided alongside the software needed for its application, contributing to improved planning for multifunctional zones—the most innovative element of green infrastructure, yet also the most complex to define and spatially delineate.
