The Programa de Transformação da Paisagem (Portuguese Landscape Transformation Program) and the Lei de Recuperación de Terra Agraria de Galicia (Galician Agricultural Land Recovery Law) were born in parallel, with similar ambitions in terms of management of the rural space. Therefore they share contexts and even similar instruments and tools.
With these premises, on Wednesday 24 April the project
PAISACTIVO organised a workshop in the municipality of Riós with two objectives. Firstly, to provide the Portuguese partners of the project with a better understanding of the Galician Land Recovery Law and some of its instruments (namely the agroforestry polygons, the model settlements and the Land Bank). Secondly, to try to identify possible aspects that could be transferred from the Galician to Portuguese regulatory framework.
The workshop counted with the participation of the Mayor of Riós and with three representatives of the regional government: Inés Santé, Director of the Galician Rural Development Agency (Agader). the Deputy Director of Land Mobility, Digna Irene López Campos, and the Deputy Director of International and Smart Rural Promotion, Jorge Blanco Ballón. The conference was attended by representatives of the Câmara Municipal de Baião, the Intermunicipal Community of Tâmega- Sousa and the Galician partners, as well as members of the European project
RUSTIK. The working session was complemented with a visit to the Model Settlement of Pedrosa and the agroforestry polygon of Pousada in Riós.
PAISACTIVO project plans to advance a new methodological framework for action over the coming months, which will be applied in the village of Infesta, in the municipality of Monterrei.

From its side, RUSTIK participated in order to gain better knowledge about the Land Recovery Law, which has been proposed for a deeper analysis within the project. The project seeks to design better strategies and policies that encourage sustainability transitions in rural areas.
Following this workshop in Riós, this week the Galician partners will travel to Baião (Portugal), where the Portuguese Directorate-General of the Territory will introduce the instruments of Portuguese law, amongst them the “Condomínios de Aldeia”, and the partners will try to see the aspects that could be transferred to the Galician law.
