The
15th International LANDNET Workshop took place from 5 to 7 June 2024 in Middelburg, The Netherlands. The event was organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia, in partnership with Kadaster and the Province of Zeeland.
The objectives of the workshop were to present and discuss how land development instruments (like land consolidation and land banking) can support the implementation of public projects related to climate change adaptation and mitigation, nature restoration, improving biodiversity and environmental conditions. At the same time, the workshop took the opportunity to commemorate 100 years of land consolidation in Europe, with special attention to the rich experience of the hosting country.
From the Land Lab, Quico Ónega made a short review of how land consolidation has been implemented in Spain since its inception back in 1952. Besides, his presentation paid special attention to the evolution of land development instruments in Galicia, from the first land consolidation projects to the new instruments put in place by the Law for the recovery of agricultural land in Galicia.
