The growing intensity and frequency of wildfires, together with rural abandonment and the impacts of climate change, raise a key question: how can we plan and manage territory to make it more resilient?

To tackle this challenge, the Land Lab (Laboratorio do Territorio) is organizing the course Rural Revitalization: Territorial Planning and Resilience to Wildfires, a training initiative now open for registration and scheduled to take place in the coming weeks at the Campus Terra of the University of Santiago de Compostela.
The course provides comprehensive training that combines theory and practice, addressing topics such as agroforestry land-use planning, farmland recovery, forest planning, and the role of agricultural activity in revitalizing rural areas. Over two intensive days, participants will gain first-hand knowledge of innovative tools and methodologies for sustainable territorial management.
The program also includes practical workshops where participants will work with advanced technological solutions, such as decision-support systems for territorial planning or tools for land consolidation and green infrastructure design. This is a practice-oriented training aimed at developing useful skills for professionals and anyone interested in rural development.
The course brings together a multidisciplinary teaching team of renowned experts with experience in territorial planning, wildfire prevention, geospatial technologies, and rural development, ensuring a broad and complementary perspective on current challenges.
This activity is primarily aimed at technical staff, researchers, and students connected to territorial issues, but it is also open to anyone interested in contributing to rural revitalization and the development of more resilient territories.
