Innovation and commitment to the territory: Meet the winners of the 8th Rafael Crecente Awards

Next Thursday, October 16 at 6:00 p.m., the award ceremony for the 8th Edition of the Rafael Crecente Awards will take place at the Higher Polytechnic School of Engineering (EPSE) in Lugo. These awards recognize innovative proposals in territorial management and rural development in Galicia.

The event, held in EPSE’s Assembly Hall, will be open to the public and will include presentations by the winning proposals. Organized by the Institute of Biodiversity and Rural Development (IBADER) and the Land Laboratory of the University of Santiago de Compostela (Campus Terra), the awards aim to promote novel ideas that contribute to territorial sustainability, environmental conservation, and improved agricultural production.

This edition will feature a keynote lecture by Harvey M. Jacobs, emeritus professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (USA), titled “Private Property and Sustainable Environmental Management: A 21st Century Challenge.” He will address contemporary challenges in environmental management from the perspective of private property—an especially relevant topic for the Galician context. Also participating will be Pacôme Elouna Eyenga, leader of the EIP-AGRI Support Facility of the EU CAP Network, who will speak about the role of the innovation in agriculture within the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and the role of the European EIP-AGRI network. Both talks will include simultaneous English translation for attendees who may require it.

The ceremony will conclude with a reception for all attendees, encouraging networking among professionals, researchers, and individuals interested in sustainable territorial management.

The Rafael Crecente Awards, held annually since 2017, are aimed at young graduates and offer two prizes of €2,000 and €1,000, along with a certificate. These awards pay tribute to Dr. Rafael Crecente Maseda, full professor at EPSE and a leading figure in territorial land management in Galicia, founder of the research group Territory – Biodiversity and the Territorial Information System (SIT) of the Univ. of Santiago de Compostela.
