Last June 4th, the conference on "Biosphere Reserves
as Planning Strategy for Sustainability ", organized by
the Laboratorio do Territorio of the University of Santiago
de Compostela, and held in Lugo (Spain), was closed. This
conference is one of the actions of the e + s Miño project,
which is funded by the Spanish Ministry of Environment,
Rural and Marine Affairs, within the Empleaverde Program.
The conference was twofold academic and informative and
was attended by near 170 people. There were presented 29
communications and 27 posters in the three tematic areas
proposed.
Biosphere reserves
is an tool promoted by the UNESCO
that recognises the importance of habitats and ecosystems
and whose goal is accomodating biodiversity preservation
and sustainable development. The aim of the conference was
sharing experiences about the integration of the man's activities
in multifunctional rural areas, yet minimizing the conflicts
arising from the occupation of territory.
